Here in England it seems they celebrate more worldwide events than Australia.
Halloween is almost as popular as it is in America. Christmas is an excuse to sing carols and paint the town with lights (not that I am complaining at all) and pancake day is of course an excuse to eat pancakes, not that I need an excuse to eat pancakes. It is also known as Shrove Tuesday which marks the beginning of Lent, approximately 6 weeks before easter.
This was my first time participating in pancake day and sadly I celebrated alone as my housemates weren't yet home. I opted for a delicious savoury choice of beetroot flavoured pancakes, topped with basil pesto and chicken. And can I tell you, it was scrumptious.
How it goes:
+ 1/2 cup self raising flour
+ 1/2 cup milk
+ 1 egg
+ 2 tablespoons homemade beetroot dip
+ 2 tablespoons pesto
+ 1 chicken breast
Cook chicken and set aside. Mix first four ingredients. Cook up in frypan. Spread pesto. Sprinkle chicken. Eat.
